Find your way to the sea.
La Grace is first and foremost a sail training ship. We are certainly not a travel agency, even though anyone who loves ships and the sea can sail with us.
How it all started
We built La Grace as a group of enthusiasts who wanted to travel the world together, photograph nature, film travel documentaries and live an adventurous, independent life. It looked like a fairy-tale plan: our own ship and a life without complications:
We had built the ship ourselves, the wind costs nothing, and whenever we wanted somewhere to live, we could just drop anchor.
We were naive.
None of us realised what enormous costs a ship that size would bring. Fortunately our ranks kept growing, and before long a large club of friends of La Grace came into being. Hundreds of volunteers helped us through it with all kinds of gifts, but above all by rolling up their sleeves.
It did not take long to discover that La Grace is also very well suited to the purposes of a maritime school. So our ship began sailing with cadets all over the world and taking part in the Tall Ship Races. Winning several of them earned her recognition and the status of a safe and capable ship.
Who can sail with us
A voyage is planned on the chart before anyone casts off.
Although we are involved in many non-profit projects, circumstances forced us to set up a small family company in order to raise the money the ship's budget needs. Please do not mistake us for a travel agency, though. It is simply an opportunity for any of you to get on board. In some countries, and in limited numbers (max. 12 people), we also take guests. Guests can enjoy sailing under white canvas, swimming or diving without having to work. You should be aware, however, that if you want to join us, in many cases you will have to step out of your comfort zone. You are, after all, boarding a historical ship, with all her possibilities and her rules.
To the rest of you, the cadets, we offer the chance to live the life of an 18th-century sailor. What can you expect? Romance and adventure, but also a great deal of learning and daily work, without which the ship would not move an inch. What we can promise you is that it will be an unforgettable experience for every one of you.
