Astronavigation Course
Who the course is for
The course is intended for beginners as well as the moderately advanced. Besides general information, the aim is to master the practical handling of a sextant and astronavigational calculations. There is no need to worry about a final exam; the course ends only with an entry in your Seaman's Book. If you would like one, you can buy it from Romča for 300 Kč, contact: Romca@LaGrace.cz.

Dates 2025/2026
- 15.-7.12.2025 Astronavigation for beginners
- 2.-4.1.2026 Astronavigation for the advanced
- 27.2.-1.3.2026 Astronavigation for beginners and the advanced (depending on interest)
Course schedule
- Friday — we plan to start between 4 and 5 pm with organisational matters, so there is room for people arriving from far away. In the evening we cover basic information about the celestial sphere and other fundamentals.
- Saturday — a whole day of intensive teaching, including practical sun sights and star sights in the evening (weather permitting).
- Sunday — the course officially ends at noon. Packing and cleaning of the accommodation follows.
Course price
3.000 Kč
Payment: A non-refundable deposit of 1.500,- Kč in advance and the rest in cash on the spot.
The price includes the tuition, the loan of equipment and 2 nights' accommodation in a cottage in the Orlické hory mountains.
The price does not include transport or food. Transport is your own; by arrangement we travel in groups in shared cars. Food is also your own, or shared by arrangement. At the end we all clean the cottage together.
What to bring
A notepad, coloured pencils or markers, a pencil, an eraser, a pen, a ruler, a calculator with trigonometric functions, your Seaman's Book, indoor shoes and a sleeping bag.
