Offshore Yacht Master
On the basis of the Offshore Yacht Master certificate of competence issued by the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic – Maritime Authority, this qualification allows you to command seagoing yachts in accordance with the category for which it is issued.
The two basic types of qualification are
- Restricted – intended for motor yachts only
- Unrestricted – intended for motor yachts and sailing yachts
Breakdown of qualifications by sailing area
- sailing qualification C – up to 20 Nm from the coastline (vessel length limited to 16 m at the waterline and a maximum wind force of 6 Bf, i.e. almost 50 km/h)
- sailing qualification B – up to 200 Nm from the coastline (vessel length limited to 24 m at the waterline, no wind force limit), obtainable only after a certain amount of experience laid down by the implementing decree of the Czech Ministry of Transport
- sailing qualification A – unrestricted (subject to a maximum vessel length of 24 m)
Only a person over 18 years of age may obtain the certificate of competence.
Requirements for obtaining the qualification for area "C"
- an application for the issue of the qualification
- a certificate of medical fitness from a doctor contracted by the Czech Ministry of Transport (can be found on the website of the Maritime Authority of the Czech Ministry of Transport, or will be handed out during the course)
- 1 passport-format photograph
- payment of the administrative fee (currently a 500,-Kč duty stamp)
- completion of sea practice, including verification of practical knowledge on a yacht by an examiner appointed by the Czech Ministry of Transport
- passing an oral examination before the examiners of the Maritime Authority of the Czech Ministry of Transport under state supervision by the Czech Ministry of Transport
Content of the oral examination
- maritime navigation (this includes a written part in the form of solving a model exercise)
- seamanship
- basics of maritime law and COLREG
- basics of meteorology
- basics of English
- basics of first aid
The certificate is currently valid for 10 years, after which, provided the prescribed conditions are met (proof of 500 Nm sailed), you have to apply for a new one to be issued.
Requirements for obtaining the qualification for area "B"
Pass a theoretical examination in the following subjects
- navigation (this includes a written part in the form of solving a model exercise)
- maritime law and COLREG
- meteorology
- seamanship
- English
- first aid
The basic and necessary prerequisite is to hold the "C" qualification; you must be able to prove, whether by a yachting logbook or a ship's log, that as a skipper you have sailed at least 1000 Nm in the waters of area "C", and additionally at least 1 500 Nm as a crew member under a skipper holding the "B" or "A" qualification.

Requirements for obtaining the qualification for area "A"
In this case it is an entirely extraordinary and exceptional matter, which is dealt with individually together with the Maritime Authority of the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic. We therefore recommend that you contact us, discuss the matter in a consultation and then agree on how to proceed.Any further information and answers to your questions will be provided during the opening organisational part of the course.
