Inland skipper licence (VMP and VRP)

Malé plavidlo je:

  1. a vessel with its own mechanical propulsion with an engine output of more than 4 kW,
  2. a sailing vessel with a total sail area of more than 12 m2,
  3. a vessel without its own propulsion (a rowing boat) with a total weight, including the permitted load, of more than 1000 kg.

Breakdown of qualifications by category

  • S – sailing vessels with no limit on total sail area, and rowing boats
  • S20 – sailing vessels with a total sail area of up to 20 m2, and rowing boats
  • M – vessels with their own mechanical propulsion with no power limit, and rowing boats
  • M20 – vessels with their own mechanical propulsion with an engine output of up to 20 kW, and rowing boats

These qualifications always relate to a specific sailing area:

  • VMP – inland waterways in the Czech Republic
  • VRP-I – inland waterways abroad
  • VRP-C – coastal sea waters up to 1 Nm from the coastline

A VMP certificate can be obtained by a person with legal capacity over 16 years of age, a VRP certificate by a person with legal capacity over 18 years of age. The VRP qualification can only be obtained by an applicant who already holds the VMP qualification. Both examinations can, however, be combined and taken on a single day.

Conditions for obtaining the qualification to command small craft

  • Passing the theoretical examination. It takes the form of computer tests before a board of the State Navigation Authority and is organised by our partner sailing school in Hradec Králové.
  • For selected categories, passing a practical examination.
  • Those who already hold an offshore yacht master certificate, and those who want only the M20 and S20 categories, are exempt from this practical examination. It therefore applies to groups M and S. The examination is taken before an examiner authorised by the State Navigation Authority. Information and any contacts will be given to participants during the course.
  • Submission of a medical certificate of fitness issued by the general practitioner who holds your medical records. The certificate must not be more than 3 months old on the day of the examination.
  • Payment of an administrative fee (duty stamp), currently 500,- Kč.
  • 1 passport-format photograph.

Once all the conditions are met, the certificate is issued by the State Navigation Authority and is valid indefinitely.
