Ship's Rules

Every person aboard the ship La Grace must observe the ship's rules under all circumstances!

Rights and duties of persons on board

Everyone on board has the right:
- To take part in planning the programme and the route of the voyage within the rules agreed in advance. Any change to the programme must be approved by a majority of the participants and authorised by the captain.
- To take part in running and operating the ship.
- To take part in all training and instruction during the voyage.

Everyone on board is obliged:
- To follow the instructions of the captain and the permanent, professional crew under all circumstances.
- To take part in the basic training on safety and the rules of sailing aboard the ship La Grace.
- Not to endanger the safety of other persons.
- Not to endanger the safety of the ship or of other vessels.
- Not to bring aboard weapons, drugs (including marijuana, hashish...etc.), flammable and explosive substances or any other dangerous or unlawful items. An exception to this rule is made for replica weapons agreed in advance for the purposes of a specific event. The owner of such weapons bears sole responsibility for their certification (the legislation of the country concerned), storage and use.
- Not to damage the ship, her equipment or harbour facilities.
- To pay for any damage caused to the ship and her equipment, etc.
- To keep the ship and her surroundings tidy and clean.
- To behave in a way that safeguards the good name of the ship La Grace and her crew.
- To take out insurance before the trip covering medical expenses abroad.
- To dive only at their own risk. Anyone who dives must hold a valid licence and diving insurance!

Rights and duties of the ship's captain:
The ship's captain has the right:
- To act without consulting the others:
- if the safety of the people on board, the safety of the ship or of other persons or vessels is endangered,
- on the direct order of the owner or operator of the ship.
- To put ashore at the nearest port anyone who has grossly or repeatedly breached the "Ship's Rules"

The ship's captain is obliged

- To ensure the safety of the crew members and of other persons.
- To ensure the safety of the ship.
- To take all measures necessary to avert damage threatening persons, the ship and the cargo.
- To ensure that the persons on board are familiar with the location and use of the fire extinguishers and life-saving equipment.
- To familiarise all persons on board with all the necessary safety regulations - the "man overboard" manoeuvre and the "ship's and water alarm".
- To familiarise all persons on board with the operation of the ship.
- Where possible, to consult the others about the route and the manner of the voyage.
- Where possible, to accommodate the wishes of the majority of the persons on board.
- To notify the operator of the ship in writing and in good time of any shortcomings that could lead to endangering the safety of persons on board or to damage to the ship.

Any disputes

- In the event of a dispute between the captain or the professional crew and the participants, both parties are obliged to write a record of the event in the ship's log for the purposes of any further investigation by the operator. Later complaints will not be taken into account.
